Volunteers
Our dogs and cats come in many colors, shapes and sizes - and so do our
volunteers! At Orphan Pet Oasis, there are over 50 cats and more than
160 dogs - all waiting to be walked, played with, fed and groomed. That
means we need your help! If you're interested in volunteering at Orphan
Pet Oasis, please call our Volunteer Coordinator, Lori Martinez, at 760-413-7174.
You must be 18 years or older for be a volunteer at Orphan Pet Oasis.
Dog Walkers
Early each morning, our dogs are walked on our desert trail. Volunteers assist in walking dogs and rotating dogs to our play areas. During the summer when the temperature soars, our dogs need to be walked early. Throughout the day, dogs are moved from their kennel to one of our four playpens to allow them exercise time. If you're interested in volunteering as a dog walker, you need to be in good physical health, have some experience working with dogs, and be able to arrive at Orphan Pet Oasis at 8:00 a.m. in the summer, and 9:00 a.m. in the winter.
Groomers
At Orphan Pet Oasis, our animals are lovingly cared for. Bathing and grooming is done daily. Volunteers work in concert with our staff to bath the dogs and brush both dogs and cats. In conjunction with area dog salons, Orphan Pet Oasis dogs visit a professional groomer monthly. Volunteers assist in loading dogs for their trip to the doggie salon. If you're interested in volunteering, you need to be available on Wednesday mornings.
Socialization
Animals crave companionship. If you're interested in just spending time with our dogs, this is the perfect volunteer opportunity. Playing fetch, scratching a tummy or just spending time with the dogs is an important component in their lives. Our cats enjoy companionship as well. Spending time in our Cat Rescue Center playing with the juveniles or petting some of the older cats ensures they get the attention they need. Volunteers are welcome daily between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
General Compound Assistance
Orphan Pet Oasis is a very busy animal facility. Cleaning areas, raking, helping with projects, and myriad other activities keep our staff moving. Filing paperwork, answering phones, or greeting potential new parents is a constant job. We always look for volunteers to assist us with special events such as our "Blessing of the Animals", education programs and our Annual Spring Luncheon. Join us and let us know your interests and skills. Your time and talent truly makes a difference in the lives of our beautiful animals.
